Not a great store to get your bbq stuff, also customer service is AWFUL

Hi Hot Take, I’m sorry you had a disappointing experience. What exactly occurred to illicit this review? We have the largest selection of in stock BBQ equipment and accessories. We are competitively priced. Our customer service has kept us in business for 26yrs with over 100k customers served. We would appreciate some specific constructive criticism and who you dealt with, please. Unless this is a TROLL or a competitor, we sincerely want to address this. We find so often people are unwilling to resolve anything anymore and just turn to the internet to vent, which is not constructive and hurts our local family owned business's reputation. I purchased vented fire logs from this store because they said they would be safe after reviewing my chimney inspection report. When I had another inspection done one year later, I was told they were very unsafe and should never have been recommended based on the prior report. They also said they were improperly installed. When I brought them back to the store they said there was nothing they could do. I would advise others to buy from their chimney company for safety purposes, not from Smoke n Fire.

Andrea, the chimney report did say that the fireplace was functional which is on the chimney inspection company for giving us a false report. I would recommend you give them this one-star review. Also, consider it had been a few years, and the problem may have developed afterward. We sold you the product that was in your budget at the time and was safe. Regardless of what the new report found or when what they found occurred! We are very stringent about asking the correct questions and selling the correct product. We are a locally owned family business of 26yrs having serviced 100k+ customers and this review is unwarranted. Also, the logs were installed correctly as we take pictures of all our installs. This is kind of our wheelhouse. We would have been happy to work with you had you not already purchased a new product from the new inspection company. You came in demanding a refund on an appliance, which you had for almost two years that was working perfectly. Again, reach out to the first inspection company. Jim Cattey

I strolled in wanting to checkout what seemed like an interesting store. The store was fantastic, had a great selection of grills, grill and entertaining products, spices and sauces. The sales team was highly engaged and a joy to interact with. I’ll definitely be back!

Amazing place with even better staff. The selection is stellar. Seriously if you can dream it they probably have it. The staff know more than you. Trust me. I’ve been a backyard bbq champ for a long time, and the knowledge from the staff is unbelievable. Accessories, grills, smokers, fireplaces, seasoning, sauces, mixes, knives…. Yeah. Oh and samples. Not one sample. Looots. You will never regret visiting.

Love Smoke n Fire. KC's BBQ Equipment heaven. Whenever l need a special BBQ tool, they have the biggest selection in town. I needed a good pair of grill tongs, and they had about 25-30 different ones to pick from. Also needed meat rubs - they had about 35, & BBQ sauce - they had about 100. I enjoy just walking through the store. They have items I never knew existed, & found l really need.

OK, it's a little on the course side but a very unique comprehensive selection. Anything you want for grilling not a location where you just drive-by have to look for it. That's OK if you're dedicated.

I have been a long time customer at SmokeNFire. I really appreciate their expertise. They have been in the BBQ and Fireplace business forever in Kansas City. I bought a really awesome outdoor fireplace from them. It is nice to be able to go to an actual physical store and talk to someone about BBQ, etc. Highly recommend this family run store.

please read post complete post !! these folks did make this experience right ! sale floor associate was very very helpful, also he let's us know that when we buy 5 Meat church seasonings we would receive the six one free , he was again very helpful. second sales associate very very unfriendly. now we get to cashier I repeated what the first sales associate told us and he said yes he agreed , but when ringing us up he didn't give us the 6 Meat church seasoning free. However he did give us the smallest and cheapest item in our cart free. this pissed me off. Now I didn't go back and make a return on it (as in my heart I want to) . but instead I wanna make sure everyone knows so you also will be aware of this ! Just wanted to add this edit to this post !! These folks at Smoke n fire went out of thier way to may this unfortunate situation a good one again , Thank you Smoke n fire !!

They were extremely rude! They also told me that they do returns when i bought the product, which i made sure of when i bought the product. I didn't even open the box because i resized that it would not fit. But when I went to get a return they said they don't do returns. Very disappointing!

***Update: Jim, the owner, reached out and he will be coming by next week to resolve the situation. I will update once complete*** We have a two way fireplace and were looking for a new fireplace log insert. We worked with Aaron, who let us know that there were only a few choices available due to lack of two way fireplace popularity. He suggested a one way fireplace insert that they had “installed on hundreds of two way fireplaces” and “looks great”. It had removable logs and Aaron suggested we buy two additional logs to hide the box, which we did. When the installer came, he forgot/did not bring the additional logs. This left the back of the fireplace/other side of the two way fireplace to look ridiculous. We called and let them know they forgot the logs and the first person told us we would have to pay an additional installation fee for their mistake- which seems crazy. We called back again as we were not going to pay that and they said we had to come by to pick up the logs as they would not install them. Also, this two way fireplace suggestion looks horrific. I have no idea how hundreds of people would have purchased this and anyone would think this looks good on both sides. I am not sure Aaron has never seen it installed… because I would never recommend it. I am super unhappy with service and final result. I should have listened to other reviews about poor service, poor advice, and poor return policy. Please save yourself the trouble and shop elsewhere.

They are great prior to the sale and very helpful. Any issues after the sale and they refuse to even talk with you. I gave them everything they asked for 6 weeks ago and I still haven’t heard from them. Go someplace else if you want a gas fireplace.

Myself along with three other different customers just spent 15 minutes waiting for someone to help us only for the guy at the counter to tell us to come back tomorrow. I don’t think so. What a poor way to do business.

Bought a regulator hose for 2 x cost elsewhere and when did not fit they refused to honor return or exchange. Was told by clerk when purchased I could return for store credit but manager refused when I tried to return 4 days later. I will avoid this business and suggest you do so as well.

The folks at Smoke N Fire went above and beyond my expectations when I bought my grill a couple months ago. They assembled and delivered it within 24 hours of my order even when their normal delivery truck was in the shop! Been putting this Weber to the test and has been great so far. Thanks guys!!

Worst customer service experience of my 50+ years as a consumer. Disrepsectful, arrogant, unwilling to listen to reason or provide proof, would not return phone calls, long wait time in the store, I could go on and on. I was not surprised to find other F's on Angie's list. Over 50% of their Google reviews were 1 or 2 the last time I checked and their average was 2.5. I wish I had checked reviews before I went into the store. It took over two months to resolve the issue and that only occurred after I contacted the manufacturer who arranged the solution. Most of the negative reviews share the same perspective about their service . and attitude toward customers who have a complaint. Buyer beware, these guys belong in the penalty box.

When he left he left the fireplace on and when I went to turn it off by the remote it would not work. I called the store and he said to turn it off by hand which was very close to the fire and needless to say very hot. When asked about the remote he said to bring it into the store to have it checked out but before I unhooked it to call for instructions. I called several times like he said |and also my daughter called and they said they were busy and would call us back. I waited over a week and called again and she said someone would call right back and to this day no one has ever called. I would say this |is very poor business practice and would never recommend them to anyone. Actually I would do just the opposite. On top of that it would have cost |me another 107.00 to have someone come here again when it goes back to the first visit and the remote. r

We purchased a gas log insert from them 2-3 years ago and it works fine. We were told at purchase that if we wanted to add a remote starter to the insert would could add easily at any time. In Janurary or 2013, I went to the store and purchased a remote control for the insert. I took it home and plugged it in per their instructions. It did not work. I called them and they said to bring it back to the store for testing. They said it worked and to try using it again. It still did not work. I asked them if they would come out to see what was wrong and they said they would. I asked them if they were going to charge me for this and they said no. They then called back the next day and said they made a mistake and would have to charge me $75.00 on top of the $150.00 for the cost of the remote starter. I told them that was too much considering the cost of the insert was only $225.00. I told them I was going to return the remote. In two days I went to their store to return the remote and they were closed all week for inventory. I returned the following week and was told that they would not take back the remote as they have a two week return policy. I explained that they were closed all of last week and I was unable to return in that time frame. They just said no, I asked to speak to the manager and he was even more unreasonable than his employee that said no. I left the remote with them and said I was going to refuse to pay the credit card charge and file a formal dispute with the credit card company. They said" Well if thats the way you want to handle it" I said "No what I want is for you to issue credit. They just turned their backs on me. I will never buy anything from them again.

9/3/2013 What goes on behind closed doors at Smoke n Fire will surprise you. The family owned store comes off as a nice upscale neighborhood BBQ supply store. But the owners treat their hourly employees with such disdain that it is disgusting to listen the stories. Have you ever noticed that they constantly have a help wanted sign up, well it's because they can't keep any good help. The owners of this store are Jewish but the way they treat their non-family employees you would think that the family is Nazi's. It's really that bad folks I'm not kidding. The owners have absolutly no tact with their interpersonal skills, the female owner drops f-bombs in every sentence when dealing with the hourly help as she constantly is belittling them. When I over heard how she treats the hourly help it absolutly disgusted me. So so sad that she thinks that she is so entitled and can treat people so wrong. I can't spend my hard earned money at a store that treats their employees so wrong. Someone needs to call the Kansas Human Rights Commission about this. These folks are begging for a law suit against them and they have gotten away with it for so long that they are too ignorant to realize what could happen.

They really knew what they were taking about but they didn't sell the product that we needed. They said we could convert it but if it got too hot it could catch on fire because we have a 100-year-old Victorian. They have gas fireplaces and gas logs. It is a very, very busy place and we had to wait a long time to talk to them. The store was packed. I would suggest that people go on a weekday. We went on a Saturday during the Christmas season. They were wonderful.

THESE PEOPLE ARE GREAT. THE OWNER CAME TO MY HOME AFTER HOURS TO INSTALL A GAS FIREPLACE FOR US ON A SPECIAL OCCASION. THEIR WORK IS AWESOME.
