Amazing sunset views of multiple Volcano's!
My son and I did the Pacaya Volcano tour and had a fun time. They pick everyone up from their hotel/airbnb/accommodation in one shuttle bus, and then you meet up with another shuttle bus and move to that one. The drive takes about 1.5 hours and every seat was full in our shuttle. We did the afternoon/evening tour. As you get off the bus you can choose between renting a horse, or a walking stick. Your tour guide then takes you to where you pay your entry fee, and then you head up the mountain together. There were 2 tour guides, one that led the walking group, and one that stayed back with the horse group. You take stops along the way, but they are short, and not very often. I personally was wishing for more stops, but you can take it slower as well and stop when you need to, and the horse guide will stay with you. The views were amazing. We thought we wouldn't see much since it was cloudy all day and a bit rainy, but the clouds either cleared up or we were high enough to see Pacaya in all its splendor. The only disappointment was the marshmallow roast, as the rocks just weren't hot enough when we went to do any toasting, but that isn't the tours fault. But you can feel heat coming from the vents. The sunset was amazing though and we really enjoyed the experience. But if you are wanting to see Lava go on the Acatenango hike. We heard its brutal, but when we saw pictures of others who had done it, it looked incredible. We also hear there is a 4 wheeling option that is much easier, so if we come back we think we will opt for that. But we enjoyed our Pacaya tour too.
