Relaxing countryside break in gorgeous house. We stayed in the retreat for a happy family Christmas. It was a lovely place to spend a week. The rooms were all gorgeous in the upside down layout and all delightfully warm and welcoming. My disabled mother loved her room and wet room. The wheelchair and wet room stool were excellent additions. She found it very easy to get around as all she needed was on one level. The shower was a bit of a mystery to us all, but we kind of worked it out in the end! Modern tech can be a bit baffling to the more mature amongst us! We loved the hot tub and the swimming pool, complete with sauna and steam room. A very relaxing addition to our normal holiday homes. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and had everything and more we needed, including at least 2 sets of nutcrackers! We had a wonderful time in South Devon and would recommend Gitcombe to anyone! Special mention to Emma and Peter for answering our queries so promptly and happily.

Wonderful stay! We had a wonderful stay at Gitcombe. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could need. The facilities are amazing- great tennis court, warm outdoor and indoor pools, outdoor jacuzzi, fully stocked toy/beach shed with wetsuits, body boards, buckets, pool toys, tennis rackets and balls. The playground is brilliant for all ages too! We made lots of fond memories. My children are still taking about their holiday home “with the pools and tennis”. The owners are very friendly too! Lots of places to visit within 20mins journey. We would highly recommend and hope to be back! (One down side/learning - there was no welcome pack. We arrived at 8pm due to an 5hour journey in Summer traffic and our Sainsburys delivery was coming first this the next morning. I’m used to a little welcome pack at cottages I’ve rented before with the essentials (tea, milk, scone, butter, bread..) but instead we had a (very nice) bottle of Champagne - not ideal when arriving with 3 children who want some milk before bed. After texting the contact to confirm there was no way of getting milk, we had to drive 20mins to the closest pub to fill their bottles! Not an ideal start to the holiday but next time I’ll pack a carton of long life milk in the car!

Wonderful tranquil retreat Gitcombe is the most beautiful and tranquil place to escape. The grounds are gorgeous the pools and sauna and hot tub are immaculate and over look wonderful views. I have never stayed in self catering accommodation that is so well stocked with everything you could possibly want or need. Beautifully clean and tastefully decorated. The surrounding countryside is fantastic for walks and very lovely pubs nearby The owners and staff are lovely as is Wilson the dog. I cannot recommend this highly enough. And though we did not have little ones with us everything has been though of to make children very welcome and provided for We will definitely return

Exceptional holiday! We absolutely loved our stay at Gitcombe Retreat! The house itself is gorgeous, equipped with everything that you could possibly need or want. Everything was of top quality, we had excellent meals cooked there and ate outside on the terrace, with the wonderful views in front of us, perfect relaxation! Though it was only the 5 of us and the house can host up to 10 people, we would book the Retreat again because it’s simply exceptional! The owners have provided plenty of information before arrival and during our stay, the swimming pool facilities, saunas, hot tubs and the play areas helped us and the kids to relax a lot! We couldn’t fault the place, top notch quality on everything, it was hard to leave! But we will come back next year again for sure! Thank you so much to the owners and all the employees for making this an unforgettable experience!

Glorious Gitcombe This was a return trip trip to Gitcombe Estate for us. We first went 6 years ago to Gitcombe House for a family celebration, we returned this year to Burrator with a smaller group for a long weekend. All ages (7-76) loved our stay; the immaculate setting, views, facilities and personal touches make these properties stand out. We hope to return again!

What a find! Emma and the owners were so kind and accommodating to our last minute plans, and they made sure we had everything we needed for our twin toddlers. The site is beautiful with wild flowers and rolling hills. Our girls loved the pool, adventure playground and tennis court. Everything was in easy reach, making it relaxing for us parents too. I particularly loved the hot tub with those amazing views. Top class beaches and eateries close by and our girls got a taste for crab and fish n chips. Some very happy family memories made here and we can’t wait to return. Thank you Emma, Peter and Amy for a fantastic few days. X

Magical visit Our stay at Gitcombe House quite simply could not have been more perfect. Our expectations were already high based on the photo gallery and reviews however they were hugely exceeded once we arrived. The standards of the grounds, accommodation, location and facilities were flawless. We are a mixed age family group where everyone without exception had the most magical time. We created some amazing memories in a wonderful place where the people were as warm and welcoming as the Devon sunshine. I would strongly recommend this as a place to stay for a simply breath taking experience. Huge thank you to Emma for all the help in preparing our stay and ensuring everything went perfectly x

Expensive but easily worth every penny! Gitcombe Retreat was expensive but worth every penny we paid for it. The accommodation is spacious and luxurious, and easily coped with the needs of a disabled granny a VERY lively 2-year-old, and a wide range of ages in between. The house had everything we could possibly need, and everything was of the very highest quality. The setting is so spectacularly beautiful and there is so much to do on site that we wouldn’t have needed to leave it if wasn’t for how brilliant all the other local attractions are!

Country Gorgeousness This is the second time we’ve come from NZ to stay at Gitcombe House Country Cottages and once again we had a wonderful time. Peter and Rodney have created a wonderfully elegant and comfortable country escape in the gorgeous Devon countryside. The surroundings are delightful, peaceful and heavenly for kids (including the tennis court, pools, country walks and so much more within easy driving distance). We had a slight issue with the lights in our cottage on arrival and everything was sorted out quickly with a minimum of fuss. You really feel cared for here - which is why I’m sure people choose to come back again and again. I can’t recommend this beautiful place highly enough for families and those needing a chance to recuperate from too-busy lives. The quality of the cottages, the surrounding countryside and the care the owners give their guests is a rare and special thing. Thank-you for hosting us again.
