Ten years ago, we found Studio Legale Metta, and in particular Nick Metta, through an online search while considering purchasing property in Puglia near Bari. As I did not speak Italian, I wanted to consult with an English-speaking Italian lawyer. My husband is originally from the region but, after living abroad for 47 years, felt somewhat culturally disconnected. Although we were not yet clients, Nick Metta generously provided valuable insight into the Puglian real estate market and patiently explained many aspects of the purchasing process. His guidance was both informative and reassuring. A year later, we returned to Italy and purchased a villa in a small town south of Bari—only ten days before returning to Canada. During the process we realized the real estate agreement strongly favored the seller due to important details that were omitted or written to benefit the seller and agent. The realtor directed us to his preferred notary, who had limited experience with foreign buyers. Much of the meeting was spent determining whether I, as a non-Italian citizen, could purchase the property, and she even asked to speak to an Italian speaking Canadian lawyer about matrimonial property laws that were not relevant in Italy. We had an extremely positive experience with Studio Legale Metta. We are renting an apartment in Italy and didn't apply for a codice fiscale while we were there. Our real estate agent is unfamiliar with the process of applying for us as a proxy, so we turned to this firm. Their website does a great job of walking you through the process. It auto-fills the necessary forms, and then a real human being reviews them and writes directly back to you. We ended up receiving our tax numbers early within the promised time frame, which was certainly welcome. For those who absolutely have to have their numbers within a very short time frame, they offer expedited service (for a higher fee, of course). The bottom line is that I strongly recommend this firm.
