Dr. Farkas has been utterly amazing and I'm heartbroken to lose her as a provider. She managed to get not only my mental conditions under control for the first time in my life, she also found a med combination that manages my chronic pain without needing heavy doses of pain killers. I nearly gave up on my mental health. I met Dr. Farkas after going through so many trial and errors, and she was the first doctor to ever validate my suspicions and believe everything I was saying. After repeated depressive/hypo-manic episodes, admitting myself to bellevue, and talking to dozens of psychiatrists - it took one consultation for her to tell me I might have a mood disorder. I had doctors telling me that I “didn’t know how to be happy”, as if it's just a matter of skill. For whatever reason, a lot of people working in mental health are told not to believe their patients. She never made me feel invisible or unheard. She's extremely understanding, which I've rarely seen in her field. She gave me options for medication, made me feel in control, and made every difference in my journey. Before her I had made no progress in my mental health. I was newly discharged for the hospital and was quite traumatized. I never wanted to get help again, every doctor at bellevue made me feel like I was criminal. Dr. Farkas repaired a lot of the damage that bellevue did to me. She prescribed me Lamictal, has supported me through my episodes, and given me a second chance. I am so sad that she’s leaving her practice and I won’t be able to meet with her anymore. It’s going to be so hard finding someone who lives up to my new expectations. If you have the privilege of having Dr. Farkas as an option, I really wouldn’t wait. She’s incredible. I can’t thank her enough for how far she’s gotten me in this journey.
