Summer of 2024, MasterDecks reworked our existing deck and installed a large patio in the backyard. Chris Liston came out for the estimate and was very professional, knowledgeable and was great at explaining costs. (Very much recommend if you are able to chat with him.) While they ended up being the most expensive bid they were able to work with our budget (within reason) and we couldn't be happier with the results. They truly are a case of you get what you pay for in both project quality, detail and customer service. The project was finished on time and within budget. PATIO: Casey Smith ran our patio install. He was great to talk with, proactive in verifying stuff before the project start, knowledgeable and genuine. It was easy to talk through things while feeling like we were heard and getting honest advice to make decisions around. When issues/concerns came up he was patient with hearing us out, quick to address the situation and equally quick in bringing up any concerns/changes with the project plan as they came up. He was very much the MVP for our project and over delivered on our expectations. DECK: Brett handled the resizing, repair and covering of our existing deck. He's a heads down hard worker of few words but does solid work. We did end up running into one issue with the stairs (a miscommunication on both sides/with project plan) but he did come back out and rectify it to our satisfaction. Our deck is better than what he started with, level and adds a nice 'professional' look to the backyard. Last a shoutout to Cole for putting up with Casey and really doing a lot of the heavy lifting with our patio (RIP trailer hitch ;) ) and one to Ryan who was our project customer relations rep. We did end up running into a bit of a larger issue that involved us having to escalate the situation to him. He heard us out and quickly worked to get a solution going that appeased all involved even though we weren't expecting it. Overall it was one of those situations that the company just could've turned their back on but didn't and gave us a solution that worked for all involved; (and why I feel confident with the 5 start rating).

I used masterdecks to replace a rotten second floor balcony on my Seattle townhouse. Masterdecks used a high quality TimberTech composite decking material and an aluminum railing that look great and will stand up to the PNW elements. The first phase of my project involved consulting with Danny on a variety of options, considering things like the size of my balcony, types of materials, aesthetics, and cost. Danny called out details that I wouldn't have otherwise considered, including how I would plan to use the balcony and the space around it. Once we landed on a design, the permitting process was surprisingly fast and painless. Once permitting was done, Kyle prepared us for the construction process right away, again pointing out small details we wouldn't have considered, like how to work around existing elements of our house such as electrical and drainage. Peter completed the bulk of our project and was by far the best contractor I have ever worked with. This is the first time I can truly say a contractor treated my home with the care and precision as if it were his own. As with any construction project, once we got started, we needed to make a few changes and masterdecks was very accommodating, even replacing a couple pieces of nearby siding and trim that were also rotten. Best of all, masterdecks uses an online portal for all communication and daily progress updates. Everything is transparent and in writing. Communication can be a frustrating part of construction projects, but with masterdecks this was never a concern. Masterdecks was not the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for. And in this case, I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

When we began our journey to find the right company to replace our very odd shaped 1700 sqft second story deck, we called 8 companies. 4 turned around and walked away and didn’t want to bid on such a challenging job. 2 were complete scam dogs and said they ‘could start next week and if we signed now, we could get a deal…’ we were left with 2 companies to choose from. We made our choice to use MasterDecks because they were the only ones that had the ability to design, engineer, permit and execute our deck to perfection. And they did. Our project was just shy of 2 years due to the headache the department of health put us through and a few other unforeseen circumstances that were out of our control, but MasterDecks was patient and helpful throughout our entire project. We were lucky enough to have a fantastic team to build our dream deck. We never actually met Ryan, but he was continuously working hard behind the scene. He was always available for asking questions and communicated regularly, even when we’re waiting for county for endless months. Tony was part of our design team and he was wonderful at understanding our needs and the fine details of our build. Then, the face of MasterDecks, the ones we saw everyday, were above and beyond. Mario was in charge of our deck project. His team for our deck was Jack and Heath and I am so thankful for all of them. Mario made several trips to our house before our project began and he even came out to meet with county to make sure he understood what they required so there would be no misunderstanding. Mario made sure the deck was perfect from beginning to end. The hard working backbone of our deck build was Jack and Heath. Man, what great workers. Jack and Heath worked so well together and they were on time everyday and worked in every condition without pause. Jack and Heath listened to our thoughts and concerns and their precision was amazing. From start to finish, Jack and Heath built us a beautiful deck!!!! The finishing touch of our deck was the undercover section. Again, it was complicated with lots of angles. Nick and Landyn made sure every cut was perfect and our undercover is completely water tight, making our lower deck another dry and cozy place to hang out. Thank you At MasterDecks, this was a Huge investment and you all made it a wonderful experience!

It took longer than expected to get my job done. However the people were very responsive to any questions or concerns. The deck looks beautiful and I'm looking forward to using it as soon as the weather permits. Would use the company again.

We had an unusual request for the replacement of a rotted wood deck section. It required that the decking seamlessly connect to a concrete walkway and deck. MasterDecks did this perfectly.

We had MaterDecks construct a large complex deck and cedar patio cover. On the whole working with MasterDecks has been an excellent experience. They are particularly good at continuous communication. We never had to wonder what was happening or when things would get done. Here are some thoughts on their service: - Design: They are capable and willing to do most anything, but you the buyer have to drive interesting design. We had hoped for a creative designer to come up with beautiful ideas. In the end we had to generate the design ourselves. - Estimation and contract: They were efficient, responsive, and comprehensive in generating a cost estimate and contract. As we went through the build there were things we wanted to add at our discretion, but never any surprises. They had covered all the bases. We paid what was expected and we got what we agreed to. - Cost: We did get bids from other contractors, but they did not bid what we asked for. We chose MasterDecks for their responsiveness and professionalism rather than a low bid. I suspect MasterDecks may be a good bit more expensive but having seen the amount of work, I think we got more than our money's worth. - Permitting: Permitting was an almost yearlong nightmare. MasterDecks was very good at communicating what was happening and prodding the city permitting office. I cannot fault them at all. - Deck construction: The main reason I am bothering to write this review is to praise the lead of our deck construction work Boris Koslev. Boris is the guy you want for several reasons * Knowledge: Boris knows exactly how it all gets done, and that is terribly important both for efficiency and quality. His deep understanding of the whole process means he knows exactly what needs to be done next. It's a complicated dance, and knowing the steps means you can do them perfectly in rhythm. * Efficiency: I was astonished how much gets done when Boris is in charge. Everyone on site is busy accomplishing different steps simultaneously and it all comes together in a shocking hurry. * Communication: Boris is unique in his communication. He doesn't hesitate to knock on the door. He wants you to know what's happening now, what's coming next, and when it will be done. If there are options, he wants you to have a say. If there is a problem to be addressed, he pulls you in and gets the problem resolved immediately. * Problem solving: In any build you run into snags. Boris uses his own experience and contacts to make things happen and solve problems quickly * Dedication: Boris needs to work less. He feels to compelled to finish yesterday, and he doesn't care how much personal time it takes to get there. - Deck quality: I think MasterDecks may be a little expensive, but they produce execellent quality. The number of footings, the size of the support beams, the size of the floor joists were all more than required by code as was the waterproof tape on every floor joist. I can't tell you the man-hours that went into the construction, but I feel pretty confident I got more than my money's worth. - Patio cover construction: Our patio cover is a 15 x 20 roof with stars of open cedar beams at the end gables. The lower half of the support posts are wrapped in stone and the upper half in cedar. The primary supports along the sides are massive laminate beams. The underside is finished in polished wood planking. We have lighting, bromic heaters, and electrical outlets in various places. (we also have low voltage lighting on the steps and the deck railing, BTW) The patio cover construction was a bit less efficient than the deck construction (Boris is a tough act to follow). There were a few compromises that weren't perfect. Nevertheless we are very happy with the result. It is high quality and beautiful. - Subcontractor selection and management: MasterDecks uses very competent electricians and stone masons. They managed the scheduling and support of the subcontractors well and the work proceeded without a lot of work from us to keep it moving.
