The place that dreams are made of! We've just come back from Train on the Bridge and it was an absolute dream come true. Inspired by watching Engene Levy's , The Reluctant Travel, we just had to go and it exceeded every expectation. The staff are simply the most pleasant people and their service is excellent.. The game drives with Nelly were simply the best and most informative. Watching nature play out in front of your eyes with an expert who can read the situation, and inform you what's happening was magical. The accomodation on the train is excellent, the views of wildlife over the bridge from your bed was such an experience. Thank you Shalati

We came to Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge for our honeymoon, and I can honestly say it’s the best hotel experience we’ve ever had — and it’s not even close. The whole concept is just magic. A luxury train sitting on a bridge over the Sabie River sounds cool, but being there is something else entirely. You’re having a drink or sitting in your room and there’s wildlife moving below you — it doesn’t feel real half the time. We stayed in Room 23, which had a bath overlooking the river and forest. At one point we were literally watching hippos from the bath. Those are the kind of moments you just don’t get anywhere else. The staff were flawless. Every single person we came across was warm, attentive, and genuinely cared — not forced, just natural. Aylanda, our guide, was unbelievable. Easily the best guide you could ask for — knowledgeable, calm, and just a genuinely lovely person to spend time with. She completely made the game drives for us. And Benedict, the manager, couldn’t do enough for you. He’s constantly around making sure everything is perfect without ever being overbearing. The food… ridiculous. I’ve stayed in a lot of good hotels and this was the best food I’ve had anywhere. Not “good for all-inclusive” — genuinely top level. The bao buns at lunch were insane. Small touches made a big difference too — the minibar is fully included and constantly topped up, with plenty of alcohol. It just adds to that feeling that everything is taken care of. The game drives were on another level. We saw the Big 5 in a single day, which still doesn’t feel real. At one point a rhino was so close to the vehicle I genuinely felt like I could’ve leant out and touched it. Another highlight was watching baby elephants crossing the road with their parents — one of those moments you just stop and take in. We went in March and had proper African heat (32+), with the odd bit of rain which if anything made it even more atmospheric. It’s also perfectly located — about 7 minutes from Skukuza — so easy to get to, but you still feel completely immersed in the bush. Honestly, this place isn’t just a hotel, it’s an experience. For a honeymoon, I don’t think you can do better.

Best Experience Ever!!! What an amazing few days enjoying all that Kruger and Shalati have to offer. Our accommodation was simply stunning, beautifully designed and with large picture windows overlooking the Sabie River for hippopotamus, buffalo and crocodile spotting (daily!!!) - food and staff also great! We opted for private safari’s (daily, early morning and late afternoon). Our guide Victor was absolutely the best guide we could have hoped for. His passion, enthusiasm and dedication to give us the best experience was paramount. He was interesting with a fountain of knowledge ranging from the animals, to bird life, to wild herbs. And yes, we saw four of the big five (elephant, leopard, buffalo and lion) plus many, many more every single day. Up close and personal, at times so close we felt we could almost reach out and touch (but of course we did not…). Many times it was just us and them, nobody else around…. What an adventure and we owe it all to Victor (and the animals of course). I could write so much more, but not enough space here to keep on - we highly recommend staying here and if you have Victor as your guide, well lucky, lucky you 🐘 🦬 🦁 🐆🦒 🦓 🐒 ❤️❤️❤️

A bucket list item you would like to revisit in a hearbeat!!! What an experience - from the pickup at Skukuza Airport to the very last minute of our stay at Shalati we did not want this experience to end... This is a bucket list item you would like to remain on the list and revisit over and over. From the amazing staff, service, food & beverage offerings and the excellent accommodation on the bridge we were living the dream until the minute we left. We met wonderful friends during this experience. The game drives were nothing short of spectacular. Shalati offers a unique African experience that should be on everyone's bucket list.

The hotel is wonderful! I loved every second there. Great rooms, fantastic all-inclusive with drinks included. Few items on the drinks menu are not part of the package. The Michelin award was well-deserved. Very good meals. The staff is fabulous and does everything possible to assist you. The daily rate includes 2 game safaris per person. The hotel is located in Skukuza, a 45-minute flight from Johannesburg and almost a 2-hour flight from Cape Town. I loved everything about the hotel and hope to return someday! ☺ Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities

I want to go back ! Everything about Kruger Shalati was fantastic!!!! The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was just amazing. From the views on the train to the quality of the room and the food. Our safari guide Basini was the BEST!! I love that they limit the safaris to 6 people, really made for a more intimate experience.

A once in a lifetime experience. It’s a perfect balance of luxury and a complete immersion in nature. The guides are second to none (thanks Joe). Food, wine, and service was first class and staff very friendly (thanks Angie and Remember). The swimming pools are floating with the clouds and you can spot the elephants wash in the river below while you soak in the pool. Absolutely amazing.

One of the best stays I’ve ever had Everything exceeded expectactions (which were already quite high). The staff was so friendly and helpful (Angie, Remember, Benedict, Vlak). Our game drives were incredible. Joe was our guide and he went above and beyond to explain and show us the flora and fauna of the Kruger. He’s so knowledgeable, we felt really lucky to have him as a guide. All in all it was a once if a lifetime experience, I will be recommending the the Kruger Shalati to anyone coming to South Africa. What an incredible setting and group of people running the place.

The photographs don’t fully capture the experience—this is a place best appreciated in person. From the moment you arrive, the staff make you feel like the sole guest on the property. The attention to detail begins immediately, from the warm towel offered upon arrival to the seamless handling of your luggage. The coach room is exceptional, with uninterrupted river views, a remarkably comfortable bed, and outstanding shower water pressure. The evening safari provides an impressive introduction to the wildlife, and the driver’s expertise and professionalism ensure you feel safe throughout. Dinner is a standout—creatively prepared and worthy of Michelin-level praise. Overall, the experience exceeds expectations in every way.

I loved every second at this Michelin-starred resort! 2025! A well-deserved award! Highly recommended!!! The hotel is great! I loved every second here. A beautiful all-inclusive resort super close to Skukuza airport (5 minutes). The hotel provides airport/hotel/airport transfers. Super comfortable room, staff do everything possible to please, a nightly safari included in the daily rate, delicious and abundant food, great selection of drinks. Only some drinks not on the menu are charged extra. I sincerely thank everyone who made our stay incredible: Nelly, our safari guide, Loveness, Fanni and the entire staff. The flight from Johannesburg to Skukuza takes 45 minutes, and around an hour and a half to Cape Town. I highly recommend a visit!

You Make Magic in the Bush From the moment you arrive, a collective of people go out of their way, in every way, to create a unique and memorable bush experience. They just get it right. Ffrom the welcome on arrival, beautiful decor in the train carriages, location over the river, incredible food menus, wine, and bush drives in the KNP, both morning and evening, before and after the hustle and bustle of the regular crowds. The staff, without exception are all focused on making your stay 'best ever'. As individuals and a collective I can honestly say 'you are superb'. A special shout out to Lisa nd Vlak. Thank you, we will see you again

The hotel is beautiful, in an incredible location, and the staff is super attentive and polite. The room I stayed in was spacious and very comfortable, with everything for an excellent stay. The meals were good, but I think at least breakfast should be self-service to make things easier and faster, since we wake up very early for safaris and when we arrive we are tired and have to wait for them to bring the items we chose from the menu. As almost all guests arrive from safaris at roughly the same time, the service isn't always as quick as we'd like. The safaris were great and our guide was excellent. ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities

Beyond fantastic! We had the most fantastic stay! What really made it so special was the outstanding customer service. The team’s attention to detail was second to none, and they seemed to anticipate what we might need before we even realised it ourselves. It’s those thoughtful touches that turned a great stay into a truly memorable one. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole experience felt effortless from start to finish. We left feeling genuinely looked after. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and would happily return in a heartbeat!

Wow!! Incredible place! The staff was caring, professional, knowledgeable and kind. Everyone knows you by name. Lawrence was the best guide imaginable. He found every animal and his knowledge on the animals is superb! The game drives are early morning at 5am and again at 4:30pm. Open air trucks with great viewing. It was cool and rainy some days but they provide blankets and rain ponchos. Sundowners at select viewing spots with cocktails and snacks. The amenities are fabulous! The food and wait staff are 10/10. Thank you Lwazi and Lorricea. My compliments to the chef! We had a massage and facial in our room. They set up everything they needed. Incredible! Lucky and Klav are so attentive and checked on us several times a day to ensure we had everything that we needed and were satisfied and comfortable. I cannot say enough about the staff overall. Again, 10/10. Our room was serviced everyday and was perfect. It was clean, smelled good and robes and slippers laid out during turndown service. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Would definitely and will stay here again. ☺Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities

Just spent 7 nights at this wonderful hotel. It is a 1 hour flight from Johannesburg and the lodge will meet you at Skukuza Airport. The accommodations on the train are very very nice. The air conditioner blows cold. The mini bar is set up twice a day. It is all inclusive. The food is amazing, the staff is amazing and friendly, and the game drives (2 a day) are well worth it. We saw the big 5, lots of birds (I can't even remember all the names), crocodiles, and everything else that you want to see while on a safari. Probably won't see a cheetah. We saw the leopards 3x in 7 days. The animals were great but the food and staff was definitely the highlight. The staff makes everyone feel like a VIP and really makes sure that your stay is top notch. Laundry is available for a nominal fee and they will pick up in the morning (while you are on your game drive) and have it back in the early afternoon. The bar is mostly included but if you want margaritas, Negronis, Long Island iced tea, there is a small surcharge of about 40 South African Rand. The rest is all included. The internet can accommodate teams calls and is a reasonable speed. It is a very quiet place so don't be expecting any action other than wild life sightings. The view from the train is great and you will almost always see hippos. There is a group of water buffalo that come by often and also a group of wart hogs that come often too. The chef cooks local cuisine and it is very very good. The menu changes daily except for breakfast which has multiple options (14+ options). The staff knows your name, quickly learns your habits, and then treats you like royalty. Highly recommend.

Better than great .! We have been lucky to have stayed in many wonderful places but Shalati took my breath away from the transfer from the airport to the train ( about 10 mins away ) to the game drives, the accommodation, the food and the wonderful friendly service. I want to return in a heartbeat. Every attention to detail was carried out with friendly efficiently. Nothing was too much trouble and I admired the care shown to guests with mobility issues. Since the staff have been trained from no previous experience it is outstanding that they are operating at such a high standard. It puts many so called high class establishments to shame. Well done and a massive thank you to everyone involved.

Highly recommend! First, the views from the train are incredible. Second, the food is very very good and you will definitely gain some weight. 3 meals a day that are all to die for. Wednesday and Saturday dinners are very special and highly recommend. Last, the safaris are at 4:30am and 4:30pm. The drives are fun and have great wildlife viewing. Can see the big five in 3 days or less. We stayed for 7 days and it was amazing!!!
