Family friendly and best campground all around! We've looked at many others, and nothing compares to this, on the beautiful Schroon River!

This is our 4th year here at Medcalf Acres. It has become our second home! The sites are beautiful, and there are so many great things to do here on the Schroon River! Management (Mike) does a fantastic job maintaining the sites! We love it here so much! Activities for children are planned for every weekend, too!

We loved this campground! There is a heated pool near a large playground and a mini golf. A huge sandy beach on the river was great to spend some hours at. Mike was so helpful with a minor electrical issue. We plan on returning in the future.

Other reviewers have called this a hidden gem. We would agree. We were greeted by friendly staff on arrival. I have never had this happen anywhere before but was given a complimentary bag of ice and a large bundle of firewood. What a nice surprise. Mike checked us in. We were led to our site by Kim. He is very kind and easy going. I think we just happened to have gotten one of the best sites directly on the river. Site 69. I will say a tent or pop-up would have an easier time. Due to trees and a slope at one end it was a challenge getting our 29' set on the site with room for the awning and slide but it was well worth it. The site is actually spacious. Kim stayed to make sure we were ok on our site. He helped spot us when needed. Some trash had been left in our firepit and Kim cleaned it up immediately with an apology. Not a big deal but nice to see that he wanted to take care of it right away. The view was amazing. Pictures included here. They have river access and we got in on our tubes there. Was 20-30 minute float back to our site which is right next to another river access point. They have a nice pool, basics in the store, some video games and small playground. There is a pavilion with picnic tables as well as volley ball and a large firepit. The weekend we were there they had live entertainment and a big bonfire. The staff was very helpful when we needed something we had forgotten from home and directed us where we could get a replacement. On a special note, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Kim and Donna (on staff) who were just outstanding people. Kim gave some great local info and directed us to the brewery nearby for drinks and a meal. He was very kind and helpful. Thank you for making our stay memorable in a good way. I hope we get back there. The small town nearby has most everything you could need. Grocery store, general store, restaurants and gas. Note on gas-if you are towing or have a larger rig I suggest you get gas at the station closer to the highway off ramp north of town. The Stewarts in town is very tight. We saw a travel trailer V. Gas pump there that wasn't pretty. I would never have pulled in to even try it. We have no complaints about our stay except that we wish we could have stayed longer.

Love Medcalf Acres! I use to go tent camping there years ago, I recently bought a camper so wanted to go back… was not disappointed! Such improvements since I’ve been there last! All the sites are beautiful, I had a spacious site on the river with my own stairs down into the water. We were able to launch our boats right from our site! I love how they have a heated pool now and all the daily activities! Awesome place for the kids, or just to lay back and relax! The campground is wooded on the river and allows you to feel like you’re really camping unlike a lot of other places that put you in an open area with no shade. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, they bring you right to your site and help you back in if needed so you can get set up. It’s located minutes away from schroon lake and town so there is plenty to do around the area! We will definitely be returning again and again! Thank you!

This place is magical! You do not just get a nice camping spot with river running by, nice size pool and 10 minutes drive to Schroon Lake, but a whole community around you. There are a lot of activities for kids on weekends - climbing wall, pony rides, games and wagon rides. There is also live bands concerts, free s’mores and hot dogs on Saturdays! And It is all created by wonderful staff there. The manager Mike is always on call, pretty much 24/7 and ready to help with anything you need, and always looking out for kids (and adults alike:)) to have fun and feel at home.
