We love Bates Grass - Fed Beef!!! The quality and flavor of their beef is extraordinary. We have been buying from Dan for I believe 3 or 4 years now. We’ve never gone anywhere else. Their prices are so reasonable and the purchasing process is seamless via their website. I consider Dan my friend and friends take care of each other.

Dan is very responsive to emails and details out the total cost and process for obtaining an interest in one of their grass fed cattle from harvest to butchering to pick up. As always if you have questions he is very helpful and provides information about how the cattle are raised and finished before being harvested. The meat is wonderful, it has always had wonderful marbling and flavor to the point I won't buy beef elsewhere (especially not in the grocery store). You won't get better customer service or beef elsewhere. The upfront cost is big but if you look at how much you spend over the year for beef it really is an excellent deal. I buy 1/2 interest every year for my family of 4 and it last the entire year until I buy again. I make steaks, roasts, soups (stock from the bones), fajitas, teriyaki steak strips, stews, and much much more. Very very tasty. While the butchers vary I haven't come across one that Dan works with that isn't just as amazing at customer service. There are a variety of cuts and thickness the meat and it's either wrapped in plastic and butcher paper or vacuum sealed keeping the wonderful flavor in and the frost bite out. Thank you all for the cattle cause I definitely like my meat.

I am so incredibly grateful to have discovered Bates Grass Fed Beef after months of searching for a rancher in our area raising steer in a manner that is sustainable and respectful to both the animals and the land. Mr Bates was incredibly kind and answered all of my questions swiftly and thoroughly. My husband and I waited patiently for 2 months for our half steer to be ready for pick up from Bates butcher partner in Bakersfield and when we finally had our beef tucked into the freezer we couldn’t wait to try a steak!! Our first meal was a gorgeous t-bone we split… holy cow (pun intended) it was every bit worth the wait. Absolutely delicious! There is truly a remarkable difference in taste and it’s evident even in the color of the meat that this animal was at peak health. For three years now we have been buying our beef from Bates Grass Fed Beef. The first time I drove up to the ranch at California Hot-springs it was breath taking. What a healthy and natural environment for the cows to roam freely. My family and I are very happy with the beef. It is tasty and the bones make the best, most flavorful broth. In the Spring of 2020, I purchased half of a steer from here, because I appreciated the quality of the meat, the cows are grass fed and grass-finished, the fact that they treated humanely even to the end (they are slaughtered at their home instead of being transported to a slaughtering house, and the prices are very reasonable when comparing to similar businesses and the grocery store. We purchased a very large chest-style freezer to hold the meat. We were very happy with how much we purchased, because it allowed us to have a variety of cuts of meats, and we were even able to request the head, liver, heart, bones, etc. They even offered us to be able to keep the skin of the animal if we wanted to salt it and treat it ourselves to turn it into a rug or to have a professional do it for us. At the end of the day, we really enjoyed the quality of the meat, the service we received, and the affordability of the meat. Oh, and we really enjoyed eating the delicious, healthy meat that we received from Bates Grass-Fed Beef.

We have ordered beef from Dan/ Bates Grass Fed Beef twice now and will do it a third time when we get close to running out of meat. The Bates are first and foremost excellent people! This excellence spills over into a brilliant ranch that reflects the ethics of stewardship with a multigenerational outlo ok. In my experience purchasing ethically raise meat the Baits always displayed a servants heart and a no comprise focus on quality of life for their cows and the families that that benefit from their labor. My family only buys beef from them and when we run out we go without until they have availability.
