Somewhere to remember We didn't know what to expect but we couldn't have imagined what a beautiful place this is, with fabulously comfortable rooms, helpful caring service, great food and all against the backdrop of majestic mountains. And don't miss out on the drives which were a highlight of our stay.

A real treat This was our third visit to BK. It was as beautiful and enjoyable as before. Our game guide was kind and knowledgeable, the staff were amazing and the food was delicious. We would love to be back soon.

Refresh your body, renew your spirit, indulge your palate Bartholomeus Klip provides a luxury farmhouse experience. I always feel pampered when I stay here. The setting is beautiful, the game drives are lovely, and the meals are exquisite - especially dinner in the conservatory.

Such an amazing place to stay. So many activities to enjoy, such amazing sights to see. There is even a game drive you can go on. Definitely worth the experience, especially if you hire the big house and go with friends.

Absolutely fantastic place and staff! We came here for our honeymoon getaway. We had such a wonderful time, the food and wine were absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond. The attention to detail was unbelievable and those little touches make such a difference. They also arranged a candlelit dinner by the lake on our final night (for just the two of us) it was honestly so magical and a night we will always remember. We went swimming in the lake, the pool, canoeing in the lake, bike ride and game drives. Esmeralda was so knowledgable and we thoroughly enjoyed the game drives, especially the bird spotting! Massive thank you for making our honeymoon so wonderful x

How do you rate perfection We just cannot begin to describe our experience at Bartholomeus Klip. What a weekend! These people know the meaning of "excellence". From the minute we arrived we were highly impressed.....the staff, the food, the decor, the "small extras", the luxurious rooms.....I cannot recommend this property enough. From the iced water bottles on our bikes before we headed into the reserve, to the sherry and toffees at bed time....there was nothing they did not think of. The game drives were excellent and Rebecca was a walking encyclopedia and incredibly passionate about the bush. We just had the most incredible time - everybody should get the chance to experience this little piece of heaven!

World beater Booked at Bart Klip for a relaxing weekend away. The place exceeded all of our expectations, on every level possible! if you are visiting here, do not doubt, you will be blown away. Booking/ reservation: Making the booking was slick and painless, the reservations lady, Vicky was professional and helpful (in typical rural SA fashion). The website is user friendly and the photos accurately portray the place. Getting there: The drive is a comfortable one hour drive from Cape Town central, with a 7.2km stretch of good gravel road just before the property's gate. if travelling in Summer, Hermon can get blisteringly hot. We experience 36 degrees..... The setting: The property, a refurbished farmhouse is set on large fynbos reserve in Hermon, near Wellington in the Western Cape. The property also boasts a working farm. Game drives are complimentary to guests in the mornings and evenings, dont expect big five here, it is a calm drive where you can explore fynbos and some antelope and possibly spy a rare geometric tortoise, of which we are told, some 8000 remain worldwide! The house is set among lush gardens with ample space to lounge outside and escape the world. We stayed in the outside Orchid suite, which was exquisitely appointed. The property also has a large, did I say large, fresh water dam that you can swim, kayak or fish in. The pool, which appared to be a converted old farm resevoir definitely ranks as one of the best pools I have ever enjoyed. Make sure to try it out. Service: All staff are friendly and efficient and willing to help no matter what the request. Service was flawless without being obtrusive. As I have learnt most of the staff have been at the establishment since inception (some twelve years ago). Look out for the twin sisters that manage the property, they are probably the reason this place is such a gem. Food, glorious food: This is by far the best attribute of this truly memorable place. Honestly, they feed you to an inch of spilling your innards! the food was sensational. Bookings are inlcusive of three meals (actually four): early mini breakfast for early risers, comprising fresh fruit, freshly baked muffins (one of the best chocolate muffins I have ever enjoyed) and tea/ coffee. Then, brunch at 10am, which is stately feast, homemade mueslis, homemade preserved fruits (inlcuding a first for us, preserved prickly pears), tarts, pastries, delicious smoked salmon.....the list goes on, oh and if you prefer a hot breakfast.....simply place your order with Sanna, the ever obliging hostess. ps you cannot visit Bart Klip without sampling the insanely sublime haddock rosti. I had three!!!The debauchery continues at high tea which is served at 3pm.expect once again a feast of well executed home made cakes and pastries......and when you thought it was finished, expect a Michelin-star class three course dinner which is served at 7.30pm. ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME. Facilities: All the facilties one would require are avaible at Bart Klip...if you want to gym hit the pool or dam for a swim or mountain bike out in the reserve. Value: Not that cheap at first glance, although once you tally all the food the rates become more palatable. Try to steer clear of high seasons as their rates favour European tourists, and cause pain to us SA locals! But once you experinec it, the rate is worth it. Overall impression: This is a unique setting which is relatively close to Cape town, so you do not have to schlep for several hours to get away from it all. It manages to deliver a truly relaxing and calming stay combined with great service and extremely good food. If you're looking for a great two nighter close to Cape town, look no further than Bart Klip. In my view it can go head-to-head with the best in the world.
