We've had an RV with a Hydrastar EOH controller for a few years now, towing with a 2019 F450, and I was never really happy with the brake performance with that combo. The brakes just engaged too slowly, no matter how I configured the truck there was always a delay (.5-1 second) between calling for brakes in the truck and the trailer brakes being applied.
I did some digging and found out that this unit is supposed to be significantly faster than Hydrastar and decided to give it a shot..
Install was pretty easy, the DeeMaxx Alpha G1600 isn't exactly the same hole layout as the Hydrastar but fits easily in the same space. When you do this, have at least 2-3 quarts of brake fluid to fill the new actuator and bleed the lines. Installed and did the bleeding in around 2 hours, start to finish.
What a difference! Finally my RV and truck feel "connected" when applying the brakes. I had to turn the controller in my truck down a few levels because the DeeMaxx not only responds MUCH faster but it's also grabbing harder than the Hydrastar. Totally fixed my problem and I'm thrilled with the performance of my brakes now!
If anyone is struggling with slow hydraulic brakes... This unit is the fix. It's also much quieter than the Hydrastar, not something that really bothered me before but very noticeable.
