It’s not as “nice” as Condesa or Roma Norte which have more greenery and are less urban and compact, but there were more than a few times when we would turn a corner and be presented with a beautiful building/cool architecture. One thing I would say is that on bigger streets like Jose Maria Izazaga where the hotel is, the sidewalk gets very narrow, so be mindful about what bag you bring when you go out and how you hold it so that it doesn’t take up too much width space.
The staff were so helpful and attentive - I asked for extra towels around 8:20am one day and they were there with them by 8:30! My partner doesn’t speak Spanish and they were super accommodating, which made navigating the language barrier much easier and less difficult. He went to go get an orange juice and didn’t even have to call me to interpret! Within 2 days they recognized and remembered us, and he was able to go out with written directions from me to get various things (water, spoons, a fork) without embarrassment or issue.
He had surgery a few months ago and once we realized that the air conditioning/air flow in the hallways did not extend into the bedrooms, they were able to get us a fan within a few hours so that we didn’t have to worry about sweat or anything else affecting his healing. With that said, the fan was very important, because even with it, the air in the room sometimes felt and smelt a bit stale. It smelled better after we showered and the soap scent spread throughout.
We didn’t even know that there was free breakfast! While it wasn’t extensive, the fruit was very fresh and delicious, and the orange juice was fantastic.
The hotel itself is beautiful, especially in front near the elevator. There is ivy and flowers, and it has a sophisticated and classic feel. It is very clean and has an exposed pipes/exposed brick ‘fancy’ ‘old money’ vibe/theme.
There were NO bed bugs - woo hoo! We had seen in other reviews that that was a potential problem and we did buy and bring spray, and sprayed all bedding and in between layers too before sleeping. So the result could have been different without that preparation.
There WAS a leaky faucet, which we saw in previous reviews. We figured out that if you aim the faucet at the drain and not the sink, it’s much quieter! We also didn’t ask them about how to fix it, so that may have been avoidable (we had read that it was a possibility and had accepted our reality).
Although the water hose knobs are very cute and aesthetic, unfortunately they are also VERY tight and hard to turn. For the shower especially, we had to force it to the point of feeling like we were going to break it every time just to turn it on and off. My partner thought that the cold water knob in the shower just didn’t work until I used a towel to get enough traction to turn it on.
The shower was fine - wood floor and hard to get the water temperature maintained, but the water was eventually a good temperature and the pressure was good.
I wish there was more storage in the room. Obviously, it was pod style so each bed is tucked away in its own alcove, but there are only two small shelves in a cabinet for putting stuff away and nowhere to store luggage. Paired with the not extensive counter space, everything was covered and out in the open for the four days of our stay. Not awful or too annoying, but it definitely detracts from the aesthetic of the room and the ease of the pod style when stuff is everywhere.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, with the good far outweighing the less fantastic. I recommend if you want attentive staff and don’t need a ton of space (because of the pod style).
