Verified Birthday Treat.
I believe in being fair and honest in my reviews, so here go'es. I booked the Lodge at Duxford for my Partners birthday, on arrival driving down the drive, we were Wow Wow, and this continued through the hotel, grounds, tee pee tent amazing, our room was lovely, we were very early for the 3pm check in tbh, but happy to wait, but it actually went right to the wire, I know someone has to be first serviced rooms and some last, but I would have thought as they knew we were waiting our room could have been done quicker as it was'nt exactly busy. When we dud get in the toilet bin was over flowing, and only 1 half used toilet roll and a very meagre hospitality tray. My Partner loves coffee so the Nepresso machine was a lovely bonus. Nice fresh towels and clean bathroom, wonderful rain shower. We ate in the restaurant Sunday evening, we were just about the only people in there, we both ordered the roast pork, when it arrived OMG a huge plateful, but we soon realised it was quantity over quality, pork was great, yorkshires were cold, roast potatoes soggy, gravy really over flavoured. Sorry did'nt eat much of mine, but the stafff made a great effort with the chocolate birthday plate, which was so appreciated! breakfast the next day was again lack lustre, I had the full English, scrambled egg was delicious , moist and hot not so the rest, all lacking heat, my Partner had Eggs Royale , poached eggs hard, but the rest was ok! Monday evening we had taglitellie and the hot stone rib eye both delicious, I like my steak well done which was good, as the steak came out on the stone fairly well into cooking, did'nt bother me but if you like your steak rare, your out of luck. Serving staff both nights were amazing, attentive and helpful, definately an asset to the Loge. So to sum up our stay, very pleasent, not outstanding, the hotel, grounds and decor are amazing, it has a lovely ambience, the food is ok, but far from amazing, it needs a few tweeks! I.E quality over quantity. Rooms lovely well appointed but hospitality tray needs a re-think. Would I stay here again, maybe. Just to give it the benefit of the doubt!
