A little over a year ago, I hired One For the Books, LLC. It has been one of the best decisions I have made for my business.
I am the owner of SCALE Design+Build LLC. We develop, design+build, and sell single family residential projects. The team at OFTB helped me catch up on some accounting backlogs, prep the books for IRS filings, and together we crafted an improved accounts payable and cost tracking process which they would then use to carry out day to day bookkeeping for us. I initially engaged with them coming off the heels of a couple of disappointing experiences with other bookkeepers (an individual and the other an agency). From the very beginning, their approach has been to first seek to thoroughly understand my business before proposing any work or solutions. One of the first conversations I had with them took place only after I had sent back a detailed response to a number of questions presented to me. Some were challenging and required deep thinking about my business and what direction I wanted to take it. This set the tone for the relationship which has persisted until now.
I could talk about the attention to detail, how hard working they are, and willingness to try creative solutions to address very specific and custom business needs, and they are all those and more, but there is something else that is unique about OFTB. They are willing to challenge you on existing ways of doing things that could be improved. Our frequent discussions about process are frank and direct, which I like, with the goal of continuous improvement. To that end, they are extremely tech savvy and are familiar with the latest cloud based apps. Although the core of our accounting is done in Quickbooks Online, we have assembled an entire suite of cloud based software at reasonable cost which all works together to allow for efficient workflows. They allow me to track a unified set of construction budgets, invoices, approvals, and make electronic payments directly to vendors. What used to take me hours each week to review invoices, process vendor payments, print out checks, and coordinate with vendors to drop off those checks, now feels almost effortless since much of it is done with a few clicks thanks to all the work OFTB has put in to help setup the backbone of the system. Because of their willingness to learn and adapt, I am confident that I will continue to grow together with them, and exited to see what else we can do together. Highly recommended!
