Working with Dartington Wealth is always a pleasure. My usual experience with DW has been quick and simple (which I love, as do they), however you get to understand the value of your wealth managers and mortgage advisors when issues arise. We had the pleasure of being supported by Nicholas Leith in our (more complicated than it should have been) remortgage. Nick took the rough with the smooth, faced some tricky conversations with wit and good humour and always acted in our best interests. When lenders moved the goal posts, Nick set us up in the right direction to carry on and never took no for an answer. He even called me from some far flung beach to keep me updated. To say he is committed is an understatement. The truth of the matter is that, if he wants us, Nick has gained a client for life.

I approached DW for advice about a pension transfer. Following an exchange of emaiIs with Sam Pettican-Runeckles, who was very prompt in communicating , we met to discuss this matter. I found Sam very amiable, knowledgeable and thorough and we had a very constructive discussion. However, when I remarked that the course of action which he had proposed did not fit in with my financial objectives I was informed that the company did not engage with so-called 'Insistent Clients' who would like a financial adviser to facilitate a transaction different to that recommended by the advising firm. Whilst I respect whatever reasons DW might have for not dealing with insistent clients It would have been more helpful if DW had made this clear in their marketing material, especially since there are FCA guidelines for dealing with such clients without breaching the FCA''s code of conduct. Many firms helpfully make their position clear on their websites so that prospective clients know in advance what to expect when searching for an adviser.

Choosing the best Independent Financial Advisor was not going to be easy for me. With a long career in industry but little provision for a comfortable retirement, just a few random small investments and obscure, poorly documented plans, I needed an Advisor with patience and a careful approach to find what could be done. I researched a few companies, spoke to two that I thought most likely to help, and met with Dartington Wealth Management in Cambridge for a thorough interview. Oliver and Sam listened intently and enquired about my hopes for the future. I gave them as much information as I could, including all I could find about the investments, which was sparse to say the least. Dartington comprehensively researched the background to the various policy numbers, finding their current worth and possible ways of accessing their value, and then compiled a document outlining the options I should consider. Highly recommended. I don't usually add yet another 5-star review to these things as I sense people don't trust such fulsome praise. But Nicholas and Dartington deserve it. We're highly unorthodox mortgage seekers - first time buyers, buy-to-let, overseas resident, self-employed, Sharia finance. We had a stack of probably really basic questions - what's the benefit of interest only vs repayment, for example - and Nicholas led us through his answers to all of them with professionalism, clear explanations, and a light touch. It's no exaggeration to say that his advice helped us avoid what would have been a potentially costly path we'd thought to take, and instead opt for one that now makes a huge deal of sense. Unfortunately, no help whatsoever. It started out well, and we had a very helpful conversation with a mortgage advisor. Due to family circumstances we weren't able to go ahead with applications immediately, but when I got in touch again after about a month nobody replied. I tried again another month later, and still nobody replied. I asked someone to get in touch via the form on their website and, sure enough, nobody got in touch. Really unprofessional and we've ended up having to look elsewhere for help as a result.

Nicholas Leith has been amazing! My remortgage from residential to by to let was refused due to a paperwork issue and Nicholas found me a new mortgage company, filled out all paperwork for me for all aspects of the house purchase and remortgage which avoided me having to duplicate tricky questions such as when was my hour built, and he chased up and dealt with all solicitors, mortgage companies, estate agents and everyone else involved. He was my one point of contact in this complex tricky process.
