I hired Dylan to help me with my reactive dog and had such a positive experience all around! He was super communicative from the beginning and helped me get more comfortable handling my dog in stressful situations. We’ve seen huge improvements with my dog on walks and when people come into my house! I’d really highly recommend working with him!

Dylan is great with dogs and was willing to come out as many times as we asked to do sessions. Unfortunately, it seems Independence only has one solid training method (prong collar), which didn’t work well for our dog with behavioral problems. Once we’d exhausted that method, it felt like we were throwing things at the wall. We never got our issues ironed out that we hired a trainer for: Jumping at the door, barking and lunging at the window, dog aggression on walks. We were able to teach “place” and better loose leash habits. My biggest frustration was there wasn’t any follow up on how things were going between sessions, and Dylan often forgot things we had discussed about our training plan. We’d learn something new, but not be instructed how it fit into our training plan, then later Dylan would ask why we weren’t using it. During our last phone call, Dylan started us on an E-collar without offering to come for a session on training. We’d worked with one via a previous trainer but we’d expressed we weren’t happy with that trainer’s instruction so this felt like a BIG leap. We ultimately ended sessions because we felt we weren’t seeing additional improvement.

Dylan was amazing. I came to him with a very resource aggressive dog. I have two dogs in my home and needed his help desperately. Not only did he help me with her aggression, but also helped with her basic training needs. She now listens to my commands. My walks are so much more enjoyable now that she heels by my side. Dylan would even be available for any questions or concerns I would have between visits. His professionalism, expertise, and absolute love for dogs make this an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a trainer!!

Dylan and Independence dog training are great. We were worried about our high energy Frenchie with our infant. With only a few lessons and following his program our Frenchie is amazing at listening to our commands and gets along great with our baby. Would highly recommend him and independence dog training for any family.

My (at the time) 11 month old 40 pound dog was becoming absolutely impossible, destructive in the home, couldn't leave him alone for a minute, never able to calm down and listen to me, always hyper no matter how much exercise. On walks he would pull the leash like a freight train and walk in zig zags and jump on everyone. None of the group training classes I tried worked. Dylan @ Independence Dog Training completely redefined my relationship with my dog over the past 6 months. Dylan has taught me how to properly communicate with my dog and I have found love and joy with him again! He goes to his place on command and remains there until release. He is calm and quiets down when I ask him to do this. He plays when I want him to. He walks at heel on my left side with a completely loose leash, no more pulling ever! When he is triggered by anything outside I can control and calm him down. I can't recommend Dylan enough, it's also great peace of mind that he is also always there for follow up lessons. The way he structures training is not just with a limited set of sessions, he works with you until your problems are resolved. Dylan is a great trainer - he listened to our priorities and tailored lessons to our rambunctious rescue's needs. Private home visits were a huge plus, and he was very flexible in scheduling time each lesson. If your dog is seemingly out of control and causing you stress, I highly recommend Dylan & Independence Dog Training.

If you're reading this review because you are at your wits end with a difficult dog, know that Dylan is literally the BEST trainer you will find!!! 10/10, A+++. When we got our rescue, Happy, she went ballistic when any other dog was nearby and became aggressive with us when we tried to intervene. We were starting to feel unable to handle her and unsafe as a result, but since working with Dylan we've seen a huge improvement in her behavior. She is much calmer in the home and most importantly, we can go for walks without it becoming a stressful ordeal. Although she still doesn't like other dogs, we know what to do to keep her under control when we see one. Highly recommend!!!

Dylan is a patient, kind, and knowledgeable trainer. My husband and I have a rescue pitbull/hunting dog mix, who has issues with leash reactivity (among other behavior issues). It was surprisingly hard to find a balanced dog trainer near Philadelphia, and we had already gone through clicker training and positive reinforcement training with another trainer. Though some of that training was helpful, we were unable to take Ace on comfortable walks without him lunging and barking at everyone and everything. After a lot of research, we decided to look for a balanced trainer. We are so happy and relieved to have found Dylan and Independence Dog Training. With Dylan's guidance and training, my husband and I have finally figured out how to communicate with Ace, and he (and we!) are much happier. We can now take Ace on walks, without being on edge. If you've tried positive reinforcement training only, and are feeling hopeless and close to giving up, give Dylan a call! You will definitely have to put in work, but it is all worth it!

We had adopted a dog out of a shelter who was a little bit aggressive when we brought him home. We decided to get a trainer and we couldn’t be any happier and satisfied with Dylan! The fact that he came to our house for all the training sessions was amazing. He was more than flexible with scheduling and was always right on time. How he trained was A+ we saw improvement right away after 1 lesson!!! If you are looking for a proper dog trainer please do yourself a favor and give them a call you will not be disappointed!

Dylan helped Iggy reduce her anxiety and excitement when encountering other dogs. We went from her pulling on the leash and barking to calmly looking or in some cases ignoring other dogs. Tremendous improvement. Dylan is willing to review lessons already taught and is responsive to questions. Well worth the investment.
