I genuinely don’t know where to begin. When my husband booked this tour, I was initially nervous about spending hours in a car with a stranger. But wow, did Mark break the ice soon after our meeting at the hotel. “I’ll try to bring them back in one piece—don’t worry!” he told the concierge in a serious tone. Our two boys hesitated at first but soon erupted into laughter, easing our nerves. Mark’s truck was immaculate. It smelled fresh, and I felt a twinge of guilt knowing it wouldn’t stay that way by the end of our adventure. We had chosen the spacious vehicle, perfect for navigating the winding road to Hana. Our first stop? Maui Coffee Roasters, where I tasted the best coffee of my life. Sorry, Starbucks! I was struck by Mark’s intimate knowledge of Maui. As we journeyed along the Road to Hana, he seamlessly blended facts with humor, captivating us with stories of the island’s rich history, including its sugar cane mills and the spiritual significance of plants. He filled our day with stories of old sugar cane plantations, natural collagen from ferns, and the wisdom of the villagers. Mark's firsthand experiences and personal stories about growing up in Maui provided a deeper emotional connection to the island’s culture, illuminating traditions and practices that textbooks definitely overlook. He shared insights about important historical events that shaped Maui, discussing cultural shifts, the impact of colonization, and the significance of landmarks, enhancing the historical narrative with personal relevance. He seemed to know everyone: “Aunties,” “Titas,” and even local dogs. At one point, he guided a wayward dog back home, and the pup listened without hesitation. As we traveled, Mark shared insights about Hawaiian spirituality, and I felt enlightened. He taught us the importance of respecting every element of nature—trees, water, and animals—transforming my perspective. Our two boys, one an introvert and the other an extrovert, exchanged curious glances, realizing this trip was more than just a scenic drive; it was a lesson in connection and respect. Mark’s explanation of local customs, rituals, and ceremonies helped contextualize these practices within the community, allowing for a better appreciation of their significance and how they are preserved or adapted in contemporary life. We witnessed other tourists’ reckless behavior, particularly when one ignored the “no driving on the beach” sign. Mark’s restraint spoke volumes; he simply mentioned, “He’s not supposed to fish there.” It was clear how much he cared for his island home, reminding us why hiring a guide like him was essential. Mark pointed out local artists, craftspeople, and traditional food spots, promoting an understanding of how local economies and artistry thrive through community support and cultural pride. By sharing how community events and gatherings happen, Mark may have illustrated the importance of social bonds in Hawaiian culture, helping visitors understand the role of community in everyday life. Despite the day already running late and one of our kids struggling with car sickness, Mark handled the situation with remarkable grace and preparedness. He came equipped with everything we needed, proving to be even more organized than I was as a mom. What struck me most was how he ensured we never felt rushed, even while being a few hours behind schedule. Mark made it his mission to keep our adventure alive, guiding us to every landmark on our itinerary with enthusiasm and care. By the end of the tour, we felt like part of a family. Mark’s laughter and passion for both his culture and comedy reminded me of Robin Williams. He was more than our guide—he was our friend. Five stars for Mark! He transformed our drive to Hana into an unforgettable journey. We left feeling not just safe, but deeply enriched. You did not ask for this but truly deserved it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re considering a private tour of Maui, do yourself a favor and book with Hawaii by Storm! We went on the Road to Hana tour, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Our guide, Jamie, was a true gem. Having grown up in Hana, she brought an incredible depth of local knowledge that really brought the island to life. Jamie was warm, personable, and made us feel like old friends from the moment we met. Throughout the journey, she shared fascinating details about the island’s history, culture, and natural beauty. Jamie’s knowledge extended to every plant and flower we encountered, and she introduced us to hidden gems, authentic food stops, and local businesses that we would have missed on our own. Her love for Hana and the island was contagious, and she went out of her way to ensure we had the best experience. If you want an intimate, rich experience that goes beyond the usual tourist stops, Hawaii by Storm with Jamie is absolutely the way to go. Mahalo, Jamie!

We had a fantastic time with our guide Jaime who was extremely knowledgeable and took us to a few beaches that had sea turtles and black sand plus beautiful waterfalls. She knew the landscape—names of trees and flowers. The Ford Bronco we rode in seemed to be brand new and very comfortable.

Amazing tour. Strongly recommend Road to Hana with Mark. This was a great tour. Strongly recommend. Mark enjoys sharing his love to Hawaiian beautiful nature, culture and history. The tour was very thoughtfully organized. We had our breakfast while driving, so that no time was wasted. Mark drives professionally, chooses the great sites to stop adjusting them to your preferences. In the middle of the day we grabbed some food at a local stand and had a picnic style lunch at a beautiful seaside view point. The sites we saw during the day were amazing: Blowholes, black and red sand beaches, two sides' view point at the ocean and the valley, sea turtles sleeping on the beach. We learned about Hawaiian history and the way of leaving from the Hawaiian born resident. We think that it was a great decision to take this tour, which became one of the highlights of our Hawaiian trip.

Best Anniversary Trip My husband and I decided to celebrate our 20th anniversary in Maui. We took a day to explore the Road to Hana and it quickly became the highlight of our trip. Our driver, Dustyn, was the absolute best! He was kind, and made sure we experienced all the small things along the way. We’re so thankful for the memories we made that day! I highly recommend Maui by Storm.

We had our private tour on Oct 3rd with Makana. Hands down the best tour guide. Makana took the time to make is feel welcomed as soon as we got in the vehicle. He made sure we did not miss a thing and gave us the history to help us connect with the culture, the people and the sights. I would 100% do the tour again with Mak, I highly recommend doing the road to hana and back tour with Mak! Thank you Mak for making this an unforgetable day!

The ONLY tour operator we could find that allows strollers. The vehicle was FANTASTIC and they were very accommodating. Our guide Makana is an expert driver and very knowledgeable, however he spoke a LOT and loudly. He had a great Hawai'i playlist that enhanced the tour, but he liked to listen to it much louder than we preferred so there we had to turn it down repeatedly. Overall I would HIGHLY recommend this private tour.

We did many excursions on our dream trip to Hawaii and this was definitely our favorite thing! The open air Bronco with a personal driver was the best possible experience for doing the Road to Hana. We absolutely loved our driver, Mark. He is very personable. He is a local surfer who knows the road really well, so he knows all the best stops along the way! We absolutely loved this tour and would definitely recommend!

This was the best day we had in Maui. We did the Hana and Back tour because the road was closed if we did the Hana backwards tour. Dustyn was our guide and was amazing. He took us to all the popular spots but at times when they were not crowded with dozens of tourists. His recommendation for lunch was phenomenal. And we got so many good photos. The memories will last a lifetime. Can’t go wrong with the open air Ford Bronco. It makes or break the trip what vehicle you are in. Don’t get stuck in a mini bus with no access to the fresh air! So amazing.

Great adventure! Dustyn was our driver/guide and he was the best. He had great back stories and local history, navigated the road like a pro (fast but he knew every turn and bridge and blind corner), and pushed us to do all the activities we should. Totally worth the time and money. Ask for Dustyn though, cuz the guide makes a difference!

The Best Day Originally we scheduled the Epic Hana tour which takes you backwards around Hana. However, within a few days of booking, the owner of Hawaii by Storm reached out to notify us the road was closed for construction and offered the Hana and Back Tour which I gladly agreed to. We booked Hawai’i by Stomr for the Ford Broncos and the option to have the top down! Leading up to the tour, we received emails and texts letting us know who our driver was and time of pick up. Our guide, Dustyn, was punctual. We immediately hit it off and headed out to the tour. He was super informative, took us to amazing spots including the Twin Falls, lava tube, black sand, and red sand beaches. His recommendations for lunch were perfect and delicious! We even stopped for coconut milk based ice cream - a real treat. We ended the day 11 hours later and a true friend next time we come back to Maui.

Booked the Half Day Hana tour with Hawaii by Storm and it was amazing! Our guide Mak was the absolute best! I can't imagine anyone knowing more history and knowledge of this beautiful place! We would have never driven this road on our own, but I think Mak could do it blindfolded! We saw things and did things we never would have done on our own. This tour is worth every penny! Tip your tour guides well, they deserve it!

"My wife and I have traveled extensively across the globe, and I can confidently say that our experience with Hawaii by Storm was nothing short of exceptional. On our very first trip to Maui, we had the incredible fortune of booking a tour with this company, and to our delight, the owner Sean himself was our guide for the day. Our journey along the Road to Hana was beyond anything we could have imagined. Sean's expertise in navigating the winding roads while providing fascinating insights into the history, culture, and natural wonders of the area was truly outstanding. His passion for Maui and deep knowledge of its hidden gems made our day unforgettable. If you're looking for a tour company that offers more than just a sightseeing trip, I highly recommend Hawaii by Storm. Their dedication to creating memorable experiences is unparalleled, and Sean's guiding was the highlight of our entire trip."

We had the BEST tour of Hana with Mak last week. We debated on making the drive ourselves, but just a few minutes in to the trip, we were appreciating the fact that we booked a tour with Hawaii by Storm instead. First, the entire booking process was a breeze. I accidentally entered the wrong e-mail address and immediately received a phone call from the owner, because the confirmation e-mail was rejected and he wanted to check on the e-mail address. Then, the night before our tour, Mak called to introduce himself and give us the run down for the next day. Mak arrived right on time and after just meeting our family once, called everyone by name and treated us like family the rest of the day. Our first stop was the Island Market for breakfast. Since we had just arrived the day before, being introduced to this gem was a huge game-changer for the rest of our trip! On the trip, we always felt confident in Mak's driving and safe on a road that is quite challenging. As we drove, Mak shared stories and history of the island and answered many questions. He shares a love of basketball with our boys, so he even shared some information about pickup ball on the island and NBA trivia. Our stops and timing we planned perfectly. We made a few stops on the way up to Hana, but left some of the busier ones for the way home. One of those was a waterfall that was teeming with people on our way up. Our teenage son admitted that if Mak wasn't driving, he would have demanded we stop to swim! But, as Mak predicted, the waterfalls weren't busy at all when we stopped. Every stop was perfect and Mak did a great job of making sure we knew what to do at the stops and what rules were important to follow for our safety as well as respect for locals and Hawaiian culture. One of the stops my kids raved about the most was lunch! Mak recommended the poke nachos at the food trucks in Hana and we are still talking about how good they were. Everywhere we went, even while driving, Mak knew everyone. We heard stories about family, growing up on the island as a kid, and the Hawaiian ancestors and culture. He also knew exactly where to take photos both from the car or at the stops. We have tons of family photos from the trip. Over and over, our family kept saying that we were so thankful we decided to book the tour. The general consensus was that we would have probably missed a lot of great stops, and fought a lot if we decided to drive the road alone. Book Hawaii by Storm and request Mak. You won't regret it!

We had a great experience on the Road to Hana last week with our guide Nani! We knew our time to see Maui would go by fast and a tour bus wouldn't cut it. So we searched for a private tour to enjoy the stops for the amount of time we wanted. Hawaii by Storm offered exactly what we were looking for. Nani picked us up right on time, she knew where all the great places were so we didn't miss a thing, and we stopped at every one of them. She looked out for us and kept us on track to see everything we asked about (and all the gems we wouldn't have found on our own). It was great talking with Nani and asking questions about the island, the culture, and the people. Our family had a wonderful time on the tour. We're excited to go back and visit Tobi's Poke and Shave Ice!

All I can say is that if you get Dustyn as your driver, you are going to have a GREAT time! If you get any driver from Hawaii by Storm, I also think you'll have a great time! Great company to deal with. Easy to book. Great communication. For our tour to Hana and Back, we had Dustyn - and as mentioned, he was amazing and did not disappoint! By the end of the day, it was like being in the car with family! You can do as many or as few things as you want along the route. Dustyn was a great driver and it was a blessing to be able to sightsee and not have to worry about driving. The Road to Hana was beautiful. If you're thinking about doing a tour with Hawaii By Storm, don't think anymore - book it!

This touring company is one of a kind Maui is home for me and I've been around the island many Manu times, but I decided to hire a touring company when I had friends from the mainland coming out for a visit. I wanted to be able to sit back and enjoy the island rather than being on high alert as their host. Sean, the owner of the conpany personally joined us (and one of his drivers) on an impressive backside drive to the Pipiwaii trail. It was a trip of a life time and something i would spend money on again! I know many friends who want to come visit and take the same excursions based on our story telling of the adventure we were on! It was a core memory ill never forget! Thank you hawaii by storm for turning friendships into family! MAHALO

My family and i took a trip on the road to Hana with Makana and had a great time! Makana told us lots about the history of the area throughout the drive and told us lots about the different plants and animals which was very interesting. He was a super great tour guide which made seeming all the sights even more exciting. We stopped at a bunch of neat places including spots to get a bite to eat. Even though we could not go all the way sprung Hana due to mudslides, Makana made the trip on the one way road a new adventure on the way back !
